Moving can generally be a stressful time in one’s life. Even simply moving down the street requires you to take a ton of thought and effort, but if you’re moving across the country, there are other factors you need to consider. Unfortunately, there are scams that you should be aware of prior to your moving. Otherwise companies can act fraudulently and cause you grief in an already stressful time. Moving companies can be notorious for scamming unsuspecting movers. When transporting your stuff across the country you will want to make sure the company that helps you move is reputable and trustworthy. Moving Company Scams Millions of people are moving every year and while most of the people who move don’t experience any scams, over the last few years there has been an increase with moving company scams. The best way to avoid these types of scams is by doing your research and making sure you are well informed about any company you are looking to do business with. Moving companies are meant to help make the process go a bit more smoothly, but it does not mean you should blindly allow someone to help you. What Type of Scams to Look Out For While every moving company may be different there are definitely some common trends among scammers that you will want to be careful about. If you call a company and they try to give you an estimate without first completing a walk-through, it may be something to be suspicious of. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to moving your life to another location. You’ve got a job to secure, schools to look for, items to sell or give away, a new home to nail down, new doctors or health care providers to build relationships with, and unending loads of paperwork to fill out – not to mention the cost of moving alone! That’s a lot to handle with even a relatively local move. If you’re moving to a long-distance location, especially out-of-state or out of the country, then you’ve got your work cut out for you. In this article, we’ll go over some of the hidden and complex challenges that long-distance movers often face so that you can feel more prepared for this big life transition, and hopefully allow the process to go a little smoother and as stress-free as humanly possible. All the things to consider… As we said before, there is much to consider when moving a long distance away. It helps to have an idea of what you’re up against so that you can best prepare for the big day. Here are some things you should think about: Budget and associated moving costs Nailing down a moving budget might prove to be a little more difficult than one would typically imagine. It helps to know that movers often calculate moving costs based on the weight of your items, the length of commute to the new location, and how much labor the adventure will likely require – not to mention fuel costs! That’s a lot to think about, so it’s important to consult with a...
Moving is an often hectic undertaking that usually doesn’t occur very often, which is why the complicated process tends to throw many of us for a loop. This process can become especially complex when moving long distance. Long distance moves pose a few unique challenges that are often unforeseen by movers. For instance, you may not be familiar with the area you’re moving to, you may not be adjusted to the time zone, climate, or culture, and you may need to find reliable work once you get there. All of these factors and more can make a long distance move a hassle. In this article, we’ll go over a few specific tips to help you simplify your long distance move. Consolidate Your Belongings Before you start anything, it’s most important to narrow down what you’ll actually be bringing with you when all is said and done. It’s useless to begin packing things that you aren’t sure you want, have outgrown, or may eventually give up anyway once you arrive at the new location. Furthermore, you’re paying for every pound you bring with you, so downsizing is a critical first step. Here’s what you can start with: Donate and give away items that are no longer in use Sell larger items that take up space By donating and giving away items you haven’t used in a while, you make room for new things once you arrive at the new location, but you also cut back on your moving costs. Speaking of costs, you can supplement some of the costs of moving by selling any larger pieces of furniture or specialty...
What makes a good moving company? If you’ve never hired a professional moving company before, then chances are you have no idea where to begin looking when you need to hire a moving company for your long distance move. Moving locally is one thing, but moving long distances presents challenges and difficulties that are often unforeseen or overlooked by movers. It’s important to find a moving company that is not only reliable and trustworthy, but who is accommodating and helpful to you personally. One of the best ways to determine whether a moving company is good at their job or not is to ask others who have used their services before. However, keep an open mind and make informed decisions based on your own experiences—what is best for you may not be what’s best for others. In this article, we’ll go over what you should look for specifically in a long distance moving company and how you can make your long distance move as simple and smooth as possible. What to look for in a long distance moving company It’s true—all good moving companies have a few things in common besides just excellent customer service. Here’s a short list of some of the qualities you should look for in a long distance moving company in particular: Years of experience and expertise You don’t want to be the guinea pig for a new moving company that hasn’t yet established themselves in your area. Find a moving company with extensive experience and expertise so that they can help you, not the other way around! Licensure and insurance The company should be...
Any move presents unique challenges that the everyday individual might not have to deal with on a regular basis; however, it’s important to do your best to prepare and plan for a long distance move so that you aren’t sideswiped by the commonly unforeseen issues movers often experience. Long distance moving in particular is difficult to plan or prepare for, but it’s not impossible. Of course, things might wind up out of your control at various points, but it’s best to at least have a plan of attack to ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible. The common challenges one might encounter during a long distance move aren’t all that different from local moving issues; however, they’re worth discussing in order to best prepare. Lost or damaged valuables Even when you pack and move all of your own valuables, some items are bound to become damaged or even broken. Moving companies are generally more careful with boxes that are clearly labeled as “fragile,” and it’s important to organize your boxes in the safest way possible. For instance, packing all of your heavy dishes into one giant box is never a good idea—it is best to spread out the weight of your items and pack them reliably with proper padding. This way, if a box does get mishandled, you won’t have an entire set of broken dishes in one box when you arrive at your new location. Furthermore, if you own specialty items like antique furniture that can easily become damaged during transit, you might consider purchasing moving insurance. You can find out more about the moving company’s insurance...
These people are by far the most respectful, on time, personally attentive & accountable. They took care the extra mile. There was not one thing that wasnt done with precision and determination to succeed in the end result in a orderly manor and fashion. I have never seen such a great team and the owner of company made a special appearance to assess and make sure things were at the best quality. These people came prepared, were communicative, addressed any situation and did it faster then who knows what. These are professionals not day laborers. They take pride in officiant work and prompt delivery. I would recommend them in a heart beat. Thank you. I'm sure Archer travel will be making there comment as well. Totally impressed.
Watford Moving & Storage were excellent to work with and came thru at the last minute for me for the storage and moving needs at an event. I loved how diligent they were with packing up the items. Recording it throughly and taking photos of all items. Nice, polite staff. Hardworking. I will without a doubt use them again and refer them to friends when people ask me. If you're looking for any moving or storage, give them a call!!!
Moving is a lot like the Dentist - you just don't want any part of it. Watford Moving and Storage made the process a lot nicer and way faster. With a day at 100 plus degrees, Steve, along with Alan and Ron worked quickly to pack and load the truck. When we arrived at our new home they continued to work quickly and carefully. They laid runners, protected the walls and showed great care in placing the furniture. Thirteen hours in very hot weather and no one complained, used unpleasant language or slacked off. I felt that our belongings were well cared for arriving safe and sound. Steve is outstanding as the head of the crew and went way beyond to keep us informed and updated. Thank you.
Steven and his team were amazing. They were friendly, courteous, and fast. We really appreciated the way they handled our multi location move, and we're completely satisfied with the care they took to protect our house and our belongings. We will be calling Watford when our next move comes!
Watford Moving & Storage has moved me at least 4 times and has always done a fantastic job! The movers are not only prompt, clean, and professional, but they wear uniforms and always take special care to protect from damaging my home and belongings. The most recent time they moved me, the owner Daniel sent Spencer W. to do an appraisal of the moving costs. Spencer was not only on-time and courteous, but he also took the time to deliver extra boxes to me when I ran out on the day before the move. Spencer quoted me a fair price for moving and storage and I was pleasantly surprised when he came in under budget! You can't go wrong when you choose Watford Moving!
We had a very professional moving experience with Watford they were on time, wore uniforms, and were super friendly. Prices were very fair and I feel like we got a great deal for the quality of service they gave us including free moving boxes. I will highly recommend them and use them again when the time comes. I met with several other moving companies and definitely felt the most comfortable with Watford.
I have used Watford Moving & Storage for the last ten years. I move every 2 - 3 years and call these guys. They arrive on time and are very professional. They are very careful with all my furniture and fragile possessions.Highly recommend Daniel and his team!!!
The reason we chose Watford Moving & Storage was in one word - Daniel O'Brien - well maybe that's 2 or 3 words. If you'd like to deal with a moving dealer or representative, then call another firm. If you'd like your move handled by the owner of the moving company, then call Daniel O'Brien. Daniel was prompt, professional, personal and really did a near-perfect job in moving my wife and me from Calabasas to The Villages, Florida. In addition, Daniel coordinated the move of my parents larger home in the same moving van to Florida as well - all without a hitch. The Watford moving men were were hard working and honest, telling us when they made a mistake. As important, the same men who gathered our belongings on one end delivered them on them on the other . . . helps with pride of ownership of the job. Anyway, if you must move from beautiful Southern California then you need look no further . . . these are your guys.
Morgan Isidro and Juan, you guys rock!
I never liked moving, I find it always hard and difficult.
You guys went out of your way to make this one very plesent and easy, besides you were a great help.
Thank you so much guys, you are super hard workers!
Watford should be very proud to have you three in their team! Thank you for making this move a easy one!
There is nothing bad to say about this company. Thanks to Cesar & driver Richard from Stevens. Everyone very professional & everything arrived safely. All the Packers & helpers were efficient & willing to help. It really made the experience pretty painless. Thanks again to everyone!
Moving sucks unless you have these guys. Seriously, Ceaser has been a blessing to work with. He constantly checked in through out the day. His 4 man team was awesome and very efficient and quick. I highly recommend this company.
