Moving can generally be a stressful time in one’s life. Even simply moving down the street requires you to take a ton of thought and effort, but if you’re moving across the country, there are other factors you need to consider. Unfortunately, there are scams that you should be aware of prior to your moving. Otherwise companies can act fraudulently and cause you grief in an already stressful time. Moving companies can be notorious for scamming unsuspecting movers. When transporting your stuff across the country you will want to make sure the company that helps you move is reputable and trustworthy. Moving Company Scams Millions of people are moving every year and while most of the people who move don’t experience any scams, over the last few years there has been an increase with moving company scams. The best way to avoid these types of scams is by doing your research and making sure you are well informed about any company you are looking to do business with. Moving companies are meant to help make the process go a bit more smoothly, but it does not mean you should blindly allow someone to help you. What Type of Scams to Look Out For While every moving company may be different there are definitely some common trends among scammers that you will want to be careful about. If you call a company and they try to give you an estimate without first completing a walk-through, it may be something to be suspicious of. Most companies need to see the stuff being moved so they can estimate the weight and the...
Moving is not only a task for homeowners and residents, but it’s an industry and business that companies capitalize on daily. Sometimes hiring a moving company is the best option for your move to ensure the safety of your items, to move large quantities of belongings from one location to the next, or to deal with special situations like moving a heavy piano or family antique. The important thing to remember is that moving companies are ultimately in business to make a profit, but they want and need patronage from people like you to make the all mighty dollar. As with any other business deal, this gives you some leeway in bargaining and contract negotiation. If you’re new at contract negotiation, here are some tips to help you negotiate a reasonable contract with a moving company. Look beyond pricing alone Of course pricing is important, but nothing good ever came from automatically jumping at the lowest price you see; this is especially true when it comes to choosing a moving company. Before contract negotiation even begins, see if you can get moving companies to price match others who quoted you lower. There may be a good reason why other companies prices are lower (usually it’s because their services match their low pricing); however, it’s worth a shot at lowering your moving costs with a company you’d prefer doing business with. Be sure to compare companies in your area Besides simply looking at pricing and asking companies to price match other quotes, it’s important to research the moving companies in your area – mainly their qualifications and experience. You can...
There’s a lot to think about when it comes to moving—whether you’re moving down the street, across the country, or to a new country all together. There are certain things you should be sure to consider before you start your moving process, and this list can help things go a lot smoother. The main concerns when it comes to moving Here are some of the most important things you shouldn’t overlook when it comes to moving: location, planning, packing, hiring a company, and booking a moving date. Location Where you’ll be moving to will dictate what special considerations you’ll need to make up front. For instance, if you’re moving to another state you’ll want to become familiar with that state’s laws and regulations. Here are a few other things to think about before moving to a new location: Become familiar with your new location – know where the post office is, the grocery store, hospitals and urgent cares, and other important places for quick and efficient access. Plan a route to the new location – planning the quickest, most efficient route to your new location will help save money in transportation and moving costs. Planning Effectively planning your move is the simplest way to make your move go much smoother and to cut down on costs: Make lists – “stay organized” should be your motto and mantra. Attend to repairs or renovations ahead of time – you’ll be glad to move into a clean, fresh new place that already has your finishing touches. Take measurements beforehand – planning for large pieces of furniture is no joke—take the time to...
Moving is one of the number one stress-causing events in an individuals life. If you’ve moved even once, then you know just how stressful it can be. Besides moving all of your belongings smoothly from one location to the next, the cost of moving alone can be a total hassle and quite easily expensive. Of course moving isn’t all bad; moving brings both benefits and challenges. However, we don’t all know how to successfully get through a move—especially on a limited budget. In this article, we’ll go over a few things you can do in preparation for your move that will help make the move go more smoothly and will also help you save tons of money in the process. Moving doesn’t have to be the hassle it’s made out to be—just plan ahead! Take your time packing It is awfully tempting to rush through the packing process—especially when you’ve gotten halfway through and realize you still haven’t finished the most challenging rooms yet! Taking your time packing will help you relax throughout the process, biting off one little chunk at a time. Take the time to plan what rooms you’ll pack each day, take careful inventory of what you’re packing and where, and beyond all else, pack carefully! When you take your time packing, things are less likely to become broken, misplaced, or discarded. You might even find a few things to give away or sell, which can significantly lighten the moving load and cost. Use free packing materials Packing materials can be expensive, depending on where you get them. Some moving companies provide their movers with packing...
For some, the process of moving might mean simply packing a few boxes with a few items, filling up the car, and having a few friends help you unload. This simplified version of moving day is unfortunately not the norm—many of us have lived in homes for years, sometimes decades, and the process of moving takes a lot more planning and dedication. In these typical cases, it can be a huge relief to hire a professional moving company to help make the process easier and smoother overall. For many of us, moving is a foreign prospect, something we don’t all have a lot of experience with. A professional moving company can offer you resources and help that you might not have otherwise gotten. Whether you are witching from one moving company to another, or looking for a moving company for the first time, here are some important things to check before you make your final decision. Are they properly licensed? Depending on where you’re moving to, your moving company should be properly licensed in the state they conduct business in. For instance, if you’re moving out of state your moving company should be licensed to operate in the particular state you’re moving to. You can verify online with the U.S. Department of Transportation whether or not the company is properly licensed. Years of experience in business You would think that the more years of experience a company has under its belt, the better they are at their job. Unfortunately, this isn’t always true. However, it is likely that a more seasoned company has probably been in business for a...
Of course we all know that organization, preparation, and planning can greatly improve a moving transition. Unfortunately, sometimes, being organized can bite us back. If you’ve ever moved before, then you know how frustrating it can be to not be able to find an item you desperately need. Of course, staying organized helps—especially if you clearly label all of your boxes. However, it can be extremely helpful and even more efficient to plan what you DON’T want packed away before a move. Here is a list of a few of the most essential items that movers frequently claim they needed during the transition of a move. Toiletries and a few clothing necessities If you’ve ever traveled before, then you know how important it is to keep your bathroom toiletries handy. If you’ve ever traveled before and lost your luggage, then that’s a whole other story. Being without toiletries and basic clothing necessities can be more than a hassle, but an all-out burden. It helps to keep a few pairs of socks, undergarments, a pair of sneakers, pants and a t-shirt at the very least in a bag with your toiletries. Just having one change of clothes can make a huge difference in a time of desperation or displacement—especially if you have kids! Having a school outfit picked out or lunches packed for the next day after a move can help lessen the load of stress. First-aid kits and prescriptions Other basic essentials include a first-aid kit and all of your daily prescriptions or vitamins. Keeping this in a suitcase with your toiletries and clothing is the best, most efficient...
These people are by far the most respectful, on time, personally attentive & accountable. They took care the extra mile. There was not one thing that wasnt done with precision and determination to succeed in the end result in a orderly manor and fashion. I have never seen such a great team and the owner of company made a special appearance to assess and make sure things were at the best quality. These people came prepared, were communicative, addressed any situation and did it faster then who knows what. These are professionals not day laborers. They take pride in officiant work and prompt delivery. I would recommend them in a heart beat. Thank you. I'm sure Archer travel will be making there comment as well. Totally impressed.
Watford Moving & Storage were excellent to work with and came thru at the last minute for me for the storage and moving needs at an event. I loved how diligent they were with packing up the items. Recording it throughly and taking photos of all items. Nice, polite staff. Hardworking. I will without a doubt use them again and refer them to friends when people ask me. If you're looking for any moving or storage, give them a call!!!
Moving is a lot like the Dentist - you just don't want any part of it. Watford Moving and Storage made the process a lot nicer and way faster. With a day at 100 plus degrees, Steve, along with Alan and Ron worked quickly to pack and load the truck. When we arrived at our new home they continued to work quickly and carefully. They laid runners, protected the walls and showed great care in placing the furniture. Thirteen hours in very hot weather and no one complained, used unpleasant language or slacked off. I felt that our belongings were well cared for arriving safe and sound. Steve is outstanding as the head of the crew and went way beyond to keep us informed and updated. Thank you.
Steven and his team were amazing. They were friendly, courteous, and fast. We really appreciated the way they handled our multi location move, and we're completely satisfied with the care they took to protect our house and our belongings. We will be calling Watford when our next move comes!
Watford Moving & Storage has moved me at least 4 times and has always done a fantastic job! The movers are not only prompt, clean, and professional, but they wear uniforms and always take special care to protect from damaging my home and belongings. The most recent time they moved me, the owner Daniel sent Spencer W. to do an appraisal of the moving costs. Spencer was not only on-time and courteous, but he also took the time to deliver extra boxes to me when I ran out on the day before the move. Spencer quoted me a fair price for moving and storage and I was pleasantly surprised when he came in under budget! You can't go wrong when you choose Watford Moving!
We had a very professional moving experience with Watford they were on time, wore uniforms, and were super friendly. Prices were very fair and I feel like we got a great deal for the quality of service they gave us including free moving boxes. I will highly recommend them and use them again when the time comes. I met with several other moving companies and definitely felt the most comfortable with Watford.
I have used Watford Moving & Storage for the last ten years. I move every 2 - 3 years and call these guys. They arrive on time and are very professional. They are very careful with all my furniture and fragile possessions.Highly recommend Daniel and his team!!!
The reason we chose Watford Moving & Storage was in one word - Daniel O'Brien - well maybe that's 2 or 3 words. If you'd like to deal with a moving dealer or representative, then call another firm. If you'd like your move handled by the owner of the moving company, then call Daniel O'Brien. Daniel was prompt, professional, personal and really did a near-perfect job in moving my wife and me from Calabasas to The Villages, Florida. In addition, Daniel coordinated the move of my parents larger home in the same moving van to Florida as well - all without a hitch. The Watford moving men were were hard working and honest, telling us when they made a mistake. As important, the same men who gathered our belongings on one end delivered them on them on the other . . . helps with pride of ownership of the job. Anyway, if you must move from beautiful Southern California then you need look no further . . . these are your guys.
Morgan Isidro and Juan, you guys rock!
I never liked moving, I find it always hard and difficult.
You guys went out of your way to make this one very plesent and easy, besides you were a great help.
Thank you so much guys, you are super hard workers!
Watford should be very proud to have you three in their team! Thank you for making this move a easy one!
There is nothing bad to say about this company. Thanks to Cesar & driver Richard from Stevens. Everyone very professional & everything arrived safely. All the Packers & helpers were efficient & willing to help. It really made the experience pretty painless. Thanks again to everyone!
Moving sucks unless you have these guys. Seriously, Ceaser has been a blessing to work with. He constantly checked in through out the day. His 4 man team was awesome and very efficient and quick. I highly recommend this company.
